Rewriting the Rules for Women in Business

It was a wonderful photographing Stacy M. Martin PCC, principal with Flatiron Works.

She shared some of her journey...

"Growing up, I understood early on about the power of financial independence as a woman. That awareness ignited a deep desire to carve out my own path. I began my career in healthcare, drawn to its stability, but soon realized that the rigid hierarchy of hospital systems clashed with my values of independence and gender equity. I needed a different environment—one where I could thrive.

This led me to the pharmaceutical industry, where I found myself energized by the challenges of drug development and the dynamism of the business world at Pfizer. Frequent travel and exploring new corners of the U.S. only added to the adventure. Yet, even in this exciting new chapter, I noticed the same gender inequities persisting in corporate spaces.

Determined to rewrite the rules, a colleague and I took a bold leap into consulting. What began with nothing more than a shared vision of independence grew into a thriving boutique firm supporting Pharma and biotech companies. Over 13 years, our team expanded to nearly 200 employees before achieving a successful acquisition by a major healthcare company—a journey that proved the value of trusting your instincts and taking risks.

Since then, I’ve committed myself to lifting up other women in business as an executive coach, advisor, and facilitator. Collaboration remains at the heart of my work—whether mentoring founders, empowering executives, or building connections through organizations like The Upside, Chief, and The Acceleration Project. Time and again, I’ve seen how much we can achieve when we elevate each other.

One of those inspiring connections has been with Alissa, a talented photographer whose work beautifully captures the essence of her clients. Her words resonate deeply: “Creating a supportive environment for women is crucial for their success and well-being.” Thank you, Alissa, for your artistry and for always championing women in business. Together, we’re proving the power of support, one step at a time."
