Last month, I had the incredible opportunity to photograph fellow Chief Jennie Blumenthal.

In 2021, Jennie realized that her work as a corporate executive was no longer working for her.

“I was burned out, with fully packed days leading a $250 million dollar business unit, but with a vague feeling of being unfulfilled, despite racking up work accomplishments. Trapped in a cycle of wanting to do more in my life, but success almost being my enemy—where the more I worked, the more the validation flowed. It was easier to check more things off my list and feel that small hit of accomplishment than to deal with the real feelings of exhaustion, burnout, loneliness, or confusion whether how I spent my days was really what I was put on Earth to do.”

Now Jennie gets to consult, speak to, & coach other executives who are looking to shift from surviving to thriving – and start living their lives more fully. Jennie captured her process – and the stories of 300 women – in her first book, Corporate Rehab: Ditch the Hustle Culture and Thrive Again, which launched in October.

Jennie shared, “I came to Alissa looking for a fresh take on how I show up – having split with the old version of me that I outgrew. Ironically during the shoot I felt the old fears creeping back in - will it be enough? Will one shot capture how I feel in this moment - excited about launching a book, sharing my perspective with people who really need to hear it? Will it capture the freedom I now feel? That sense of being settled or at home with myself, even though my life will evolve & grow & change a million times from here?”

“I think these pictures show a woman at home with herself. Not sure what the 10 year plan for her life is anymore, but lit up by the purpose she feels in growing a company to help executives shift from surviving to thriving.”
