The Art of Knowing When to Transition

“Go with your gut and ignore most people’s advice. You don’t realize how many things you can do.”

I asked founder and resume writer Kat Sabatini to share a piece of advice during our photoshoot in January.

“For a lot of my career and life, I was told you need to focus on one thing at a time, but it’s your life. Nobody else has to live it. I have my business, I craft and make jewelry. I’m able to explore what I love. I don’t know if it will be the same next year, but that’s ok. I trusted myself and ignored the commentary.”

“There’s an art to knowing when to transition in life. I trained as an artist before jumping into my advertising career. Then, for 10 years I worked with clients like Microsoft, Amex, and P&G—it was pretty exciting.”

“It launched me into a series of roles at Amazon where I wore different hats – operations, sales, HR. During COVID, I decided it would be a great time to get my MBA instead of taking up baking or painting as most people did.”

“After my MBA, I realized I needed a break – and a change in my life. Coming out of the pandemic, the world looks a lot different; priorities around how, where, why, and when we work are changing. We want what we do to have meaning and purpose and that rubbed off on me.”

“I really loved coaching my employees on development so I picked up resume writing. This experience has helped me reconnect to what motivates me - helping people. I'm looking forward to my next metamorphosis.”
