Headshots for Air Force Veteran & HR Professional

I recently had the honor of photographing Air Force veteran Sara Gardner. After nearly a decade in the military, Sara discovered her passion for recruiting, connecting the right people with the right job.

“I grew up in a place where I never had much opportunity, but in the Air Force I had so much support from my peers to grow. I want to give other people that opportunity that they may not have had otherwise. HR has had a bad wrap, but with the pandemic so much has changed. HR is now more about the employee and their experience. You’re more of a partner with the employee and the organization.”

Sara continued, “Especially in the military, there are people traveling with their spouses who are maybe overqualified or don’t have an education, but they can do the work— they just need an opportunity like someone gave me.”

Sara is passionate about connecting people and building relationships with candidates to help them grow in their position even after they join.

I asked Sara for one takeaway from her journey: “Sometimes finding your passion isn’t a big aha moment. It’s a slow transition from finding a broad interest and narrowing it down to what really brings you fulfillment.”
