From Closure to Creation: The Evolution of an Entrepreneur

Recently I had the privilege of photographing Amanda Veinott, Founder and Owner of Maven Roofing & Exteriors. She shared some of her story.

“The closing of my previous business propelled me into the roofing industry. To explain, my retail store for moms wasn’t doing well during the pandemic. It was time to close my business.

It was hard because, within a six-week period of time, my dad passed away, I had my second baby, and my store closed.

I swore I would not open another business; I promised my husband I wouldn’t. I took three months off after the birth of my baby and then began working as a marketing manager for a roofing company, quickly moving into sales for them selling home improvements. I was succeeding in sales, a newfound skill set and professional passion.

As I reflected on a previous business failure, my successes and my newly found skill of sales my confidence matched my desire to open my own company. Thinking through many options that I could do, one stood out, roofing. I can talk about roofing all day.

Fast forward, I attended a roofing conference in Dallas and wrote my business plan on the plane home. I apologized to my husband for going back on my promise to not open another business and got to work.

March 23, 2024, is the business’ first anniversary.

Our COO, a retired Green Beret, runs an incredibly effective team of people for us. I handle a majority of sales, and some repairs, and run our business. Every day is a new adventure.

Here’s some advice. Anybody can own their own business, but to have a scalable business model it takes the ability to replicate what you do.

The best advice I’d give a young entrepreneur is to immerse yourself in tactical skills. Record how you are learning so you can teach others. Trades can create a successful life for you. You don’t have to go to college to earn six figures. Or, you can go to college and still wind up in the trades as I did. Now I get to use my MBA and my passion for building every day.

With two girls 4 and 6, I am working on a new children’s book series called Toolbox Adventures™ to teach kids about the trades and how to use tools to become self-sufficient.

There is a world of opportunity out there if you know how to use tools.

I want to highlight Alissa and her incredible talent. When she and I met each other at a community business meeting our connection happened quickly. Alissa told me she wants to expand her reach locally and I wanted to help her with that. After experiencing her headshot photography and seeing her beautiful photography studio, I felt compelled to share about her and her services with my extensive network of female business owners who understand the value of personal branding. I know a lot of moms who are business owners focused on personal branding.

My headshot experience with Alissa was so fun! And my headshot is beautiful. I highly recommend Alissa to capture the real you.”
